Your MLS / USL questions
By: Ian Rose | May 12th, 2008Hello everyone. We have something a little different on this week’s podcast, with our first special guest coming on the show. Neil Dunkin, a lifelong Liverpool fan and author of “Anfield Of Dreams: A Koppite’s Odyssey from the Second Division to Sublime Istanbul” is on to talk about his book, his beloved Reds, and other issues in the English game. Because of the interview, we have a slightly shorter discussion this week, centered on the U.S. side of things, which I know we’ve ignored a bit lately. Anne Ramzy will be on to talk USL (and gloat a little about Manchester United’s title) and Dave Martinez will cover the week’s action in the MLS. (Sorry, Alexa - we’ll get back to Copa Libertadores again next week). If you have any questions or subjects you’d like tackled having to do with the MLS and USL in America, leave them in the comments and we’ll try to get to them. Thanks for listening.

Postponed, not put down. It’s just a scheduling thing this week, because the interview went long. There is no pwnage. Pwnage denied.

Will Columbus continue pwning the east and the MLS?
Is the East really that much better than the West as the standings show?

ok, here goes a question or two.
So far, is Cuauhtemoc Blanco the MVP of the MLS? I say MVP, because it implies that he is of value to the team progress as a whole.
Do you think Chicago Fire would consider loaning Cuauh out to America for Libertadores?

Good questions from both of you. That’s a happy dream you have about Blanco to America - he’s staying right where he is. We’ll talk about the East v. West and MVP stuff.

USL topics:
Portland-Seattle derby matches. Minnesota’s surprising start. Rochester sucks. Return of California Victory?
MLS topics:
Why is Beckham so dreamy? Rocky Mountain Oyster Cup game on ESPN2 Thursday MLS. How are the Wizzards doing in their baseball stadium, and what’s the long term plan there? Expansion: Portland or we riot.

Well, thanks for caring about the Libertadores, at least. I ‘ll just have to wait for next week.
Anyway, about the MLS - can anyone talk about how DC United are doing? They made a few big singings in the off season, and I was just wondering how you guys think they will pan out.

One USL topic addendum: Minnesota’s surprising start is coupled with a surprising change of venue: they are moving out of their inner-city high school gridiron stadium (James Griffin), and back to their former home in the burbs (National Sports Center). What’s up with that?
Also Brian Schmetzer is a member of NAMBLA. Fact.
