Episode 16: International Friendly Day

By: Ian Rose | March 26th, 2008

It sounds like a rather ridiculous holiday, like Love Day from the Simpsons, but no, Wednesday is going to be jam-packed with international football, and this week on the pod, we take a little break from the club football scene to take a look at some of these high-profile friendlies. Christian Reyes gets us ready for Egypt v Argentina, as the top side in Africa faces arguably the best in the world. Ryan Knapp takes a look at Spain’s side in preparation for a visit from the Italians, and Daryl Grove makes his triumphant return to the pod, discussing all the news for England that doesn’t start with a D and rhyme with Mavid Meckham. Meanwhile, we take this opportunity to discuss the ridiculous mess that is English reffing, and whether it’s better to be too soft (looking at you, Mike Riley) or too harsh on players that disrespect the ref. Take a listen.

As always, you can listen on the player below, or subscribe by going to our feed, or by searching for “The Offside” on iTunes. Next week, we’ll be on a day early to talk about the Champions League quarterfinals, and we might even have another contest for you. Enjoy.
